Undergraduate research offers students a unique opportunity to apply knowledge in a meaningful, real-world context to solve problems and explore issues no one has ever addressed.
UROP creates initiatives to encourage students to participate in knowledge creation and research enterprise with Georgia Tech's world-class faculty. Students may participate in laboratory, scientific, or computing research, or they may be involved in new discoveries in literature, social sciences, architecture, or business.
Undergraduate students can participate in part-time or full-time research for course credit or pay. Opportunities are available Institute-wide, within specific colleges and schools, or in interdisciplinary settings. Georgia Tech strongly encourages students to explore research in practical ways. To this end, UROP and the Student Innovation SI program have worked together to provide support and leadership in the area of research and student innovation.
SI assists students in finding practical applications for their work and promote the importance of moving research and innovation into society to solve the world's problems.
It emboldens students with an entrepreneurial and inventive interest to apply their skills and see the world as endless opportunities. Student who participate in this program are provided with one-on-one mentors, coaching, and awards to encourage prototype development. More information is available at the Student Innovation website. Professor Raquel Lieberman, of the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry, and undergraduate student James Rives work on an enzyme that can break down the materials and make them more recyclable. Undergraduates often appear as co-authors on scholarly publications and present their research at scientific meetings. Research may be performed for course credit or pay permit required.
Undergraduate Research Course Approval is required every semester and must be appproved and submit at least 48 hours before phase II registration closes. These awards provide student salaries and travel expenses for undergraduates to attend and present at professional meetings.
Students should also provide a copy of the application to the Academic Programs Office in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry for consideration for the School Undergraduate Research Scholarship.

Decide what you who you would like to work with and what you want to do. If you find a project that is interesting, check the faculty research descriptions on the School homepage.
Don't worry if you don't understand everything on the web page—it can be very specific to the area of research. Just use it to get a general idea of what the professor does and whether you might be interested. Email the undergraduate research coordinator, Dr. Kimberly Schurmeier the following information for each research project you are interested in. If you are invited in for an interview, make a good first impression.

It is the student's responsibility to register for the course prior to the close of phase 2 registration.Skip to content. There are two sets of course numbers used campus-wide for undergraduate research: those for course credit and those for pay.
Courses are named in the following format with course number preceded by the name of school for which you will be doing research, e.
Students doing research for graded academic credit will sign up for either or within the school of their faculty research mentor. Students who will be paid for their research work or are working on a volunteer basis with a faculty member should sign up for the non-billable audit courses or within the school of their faculty research mentor. These are variable credit hour courses.
If you are doing research for course credit, you must first discuss with your research professor how many hours you should register for.
As a general rule of thumb, one credit hour translates to approximately three hours in lab per week. OSCAR will register you for one credit hour by default, therefore you must log in and change it to your preferred number of hours. Instructions for how to manually change the number of credit hours for a variable credit hour course. Students may not receive pay and course credit for the same research project during the same semester.
Students must obtain permits to register for all four courses. If you are looking to register for undergraduate research, please visit the links below for registration instructions specific to each school at Georgia Tech.

Otherwise you may not get proper credit for your CITI courses.
Students are not paid a stipend. Please note that most schools require students to fill out bi-weekly timesheets in order to be paid for work. Faculty mentors will serve as supervisors and sign all timesheets. During fall and spring semesters, PURA salary students are not permitted to accept salary or stipend funding from other sources for work on the same project funded by PURA. Students eligible for federal work study may use this in conjunction with PURA funding. Overcharges must be paid back by the school or may be the responsibility of the student.
Students must go over to the Office of Human Resources located at Tech Parkway to be added to payroll. Please talk to your financial point of contact before going over. Students can satisfy the two semester requirement by doing research for pay for one of the semesters.
Note : Volunteer research, meaning you are not registering the research, does not count as one of the two semesters. Here all of our lab areas of focus are listed. Click on each area which takes you to another page where each faculty member is listed.
Then click on the faculty and go to their lab sites some don't have them, but most do and read up on their research. After that, contact a few faculty members by email, then by going and seeing them if they don't respond to the email in a few days.Attached below are my resume and cover letter
Be very persistent to try to get something arranged. Faculty not on this list are non-BME faculty, they may work with the department, but their home departments are in another major. You will have to register your research through that department. Once you have that contact established, and you and the professor have come to an agreement on what you will do, fill out the attached undergraduate research form, have your faculty advisor sign it professor or grad studentinclude a short write up explaining the nature of your research, and bring the form to your academic advisor.

Associate Chair Dr. Joe Le Doux does not need to sign the form. Consult with your research advisor to determine the appropriate number of credit hours desired for the experience. It is expected that you should spend approximately three hours per week on research for every hour of credit for fall and spring semesters, while you should spend approximately four hours per week on research for every credit hour in summer.
When registering research, you will need to manually change the number of credit hours after you have registered for the course. Research credit defaults to one hour. If you and your research advisor have agreed upon more than one hour of credit, you will need to find the research course in OSCAR and click on the "1" credit hour, and manually change it to the number of credit hours you are seeking, so change from "1" to "3", for example. A final report is required.

The PRC supports undergraduates who have chosen to focus their engineering major in this area with research for pay part-time or research for credit opportunities in the fall and spring. Petit Undergraduate Research Scholars Program. The Petit Undergraduate Research Scholars Program is a competitive scholarship program that serves to develop the next generation of leading bioengineering and bioscience researchers by providing a comprehensive research experience for a full year.
Open to all Atlanta area university students, the program allows undergraduates sophomores, juniors, and seniors to conduct independent research in the state-of-the-art laboratories of the Parker H. Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience. Applications accepted from mid-August through mid-September for selected scholars to begin research the following January.
The Vertically-Integrated Projects VIP Program is an undergraduate education program that operates in a research and development context. Undergraduate students that join VIP teams earn academic credit for their participation in design efforts that assist faculty and graduate students with research and development issues in their areas of technical expertise.
The teams are: multidisciplinary - drawing students from across engineering and around campus; vertically-integrated - maintaining a mix of sophomores through PhD students each semester; and long term - each undergraduate student may participate in a project for up to three years and each graduate student may participate for the duration of their graduate career.
